Since opening in Fall of 2005, the SALINA Family HealthCARE Dental Center has been working at capacity to serve area residents like Zeda Fouard. Zeda needed a chance to plan for and receive dental care that she could afford so she could continue to work as a care-giver for others. During times of family crisis, it’s easy to let your own health go, Zeda explains. More than once, she has relied on SALINA Family HealthCARE (formerly known as Salina Cares Health Clinic) because “When you walk into the clinic the first person you see is a friendly face.”
Dr. Tim Pivonka, one of the friendly faces, returned to Salina after a military career, with the mission of equipping and opening this much-needed facility. Other agencies funded by the United Way sharing the spotlight in the 2006 success story video are United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina, Inc., and the American Red Cross-North Central Chapter. In these stories, United Way donations enabled community members to come together around an urgent need. But they also built partnerships to address the root causes of the problems we all face, making lasting change.
