Nurturing Children & Youth

   As Judy's daughter entered 5th grade, she noticed that many of the children her daughter's age were going home to an empty house. In a former job, Judy worked with juveniles as a counselor and she knew from experience that after school is a prime time for unsupervised children to get into trouble.
   "The working parents of Salina are lucky to have a program like Y's-Kids Club available to them," said Arpin. The Y's Kids Club after school program provides affordable after school child care for working parents. United Way provides scholarships for families who can't afford the full cost of Y's-Kids Club.
"Our daughter has gone to Y's-Kids Club for several years. She learned decision-making skills that helped her approach her teen years with confidence. She has been able to benefit from her involvement with the adults who supervise the program. She has learned to trust them and they have become very important role models for her," said Judy.

Jessica became very close to Angi, the director of Y's Kids Club and her daughter Cali while spending time in the after school program.
