Did you know that in the last 30
days approximately 85 Saline County youth have admitted to using inhalants?
Would it surprise you to find out the 20% of our nation's youth will use
inhalants before they are in the 7th grade?
Parents can help to reduce the chances of their
children doing drugs by setting boundaries. "It is very important
for parents to know where their children are, what time they will be there
and who they are with," said Steve Henoch, Director of the Regional Prevention
Center, a program of Central Kansas Foundation.
A recent substance abuse survey shows that youth
between the ages of 12 and 17 are 39 times more apt to use drugs is they
have friends who use. Youth are 16 times more apt to use if they don't
think their friends would care.
Parents can show their children that they care about
them by setting boundaries and being consistent. They should also
communicate to their children their clear and precise views on drug abuse.
If you would like to know more about preventing
drug abuse in your children or the dangers of inhalants, please call Steve
Henoch of Central Kansas Foundation at 825-6224.
