HOTLINE Volunteers and Staff Care for the Community

If you are feeling down and need someone to talk to or just need information on where to turn, help is only a phone call away, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  When you call HOTLINE you will find volunteers and staff that are trained in counseling and are familiar with a directory of community resource information.
Marlene  Hansmann, the director of HOTLINE feels that one of the important things they do for people who call is to encourage them to take the first step to get help.  "I always let our volunteers know that it is our job to give people the tools and information they need to help themselves.  It is important to let people know they are capable and even though they need help now, they can do it," said Marlene.
People who are depressed or suicidal are often reluctant to take the first step and call a mental health professional, but they feel comfortable calling HOTLINE where they have a trained individual to talk to that will help them find the care they need.  The volunteers and staff are so well trained that mental health professionals often refer patients to HOTLINE for after hours help.
