Nurturing Children & Youth

Barb has taken approximately ten parenting classes from Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS) over the last ten years and is very thankful for their existence.
She started taking the classes to become the best mom she could be and believes they have helped her define what she wants to be as a mom.  "The teachers break-down the abundant parenting information and give it to parents in a concise manner," said Barb.  "They are wonderful and on target with children's needs."
A specific example of how the classed helped Barb, happened when one of her children started having temper tantrums.  The class helped her find out how to best help her child.  When she could see where her child was coming from, she discovered that some of her own actions may have added to the tantrums.  It then became easier to solve the problem.  "Sometimes you have to look at yourself and see what you can do differently," said Barb.  "The classes help provide parents with perspective."
They also provide a place for parents to share experiences.  "It is easy to think that you are the only one having challenges and it is helpful to see that other parents go through the same thing," said Barb.
