Nurturing Children & Youth

Children at Martin Luther King, Jr. Child Development Center (MLK) feel like a family of friends surrounds them.  Teachers encourage children to ask themselves, "How do my friends feel about it," before they act on something.  This allows children to feel comfortable exploring their surroundings.
Teachers at MLK also encourage verbal communication so that children learn to solve their own problems and deal with disagreements in a positive way.
Children learn about diversity by using sign language in the classroom.  The use of sign language helps them discover that it is ok to be different and if everyone was the same the world would be boring.
Salina Area United Way scholarships help many children go to caring preschools like MLK.
