Nurturing Children and Youth

"We are bonded by teardrops.
We share our teardrops.
Through our teardrops.
We will be stronger."

Teardrops is the Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas' support group for teens who have been sexually assaulted.  This group helps girls to regain the asset of personal power by giving them a friendly environment to speak about what happened to them and to know that they are not alone.
Offenders frequently threaten their victims to keep them quiet.  It can be scary if the victim thinks the offender may punish them for telling.  In fact, once the victim has told their story in a safe group, they become stronger than the offender.
According to one of the girls in the group, "Teen Support Group is a place where I feel safe to talk, and I know no one will tell anyone else.  I love it, everyone else understands because they have been through it too."
Another participant stated, "It is a very loving group.  You can find out about what the people in this group do and how they act.  We know how they feel because we hve been in their situation before.  It is a group that makes you feel comfy and it also makes you laugh."

Local Sexual Assault victims decorated t-whirts for display at Central Mall from Saturday, April 21 to Saturday, April 28.  The shirts help make the public aware of the number of local people affected by Sexual Assault.
