Nurturing Children & Youth
Salina Child Care Association is a United Way participating
agency that provides quality childcare services for infants, toddlers,
pre-school and school age children. They
are committed to building assets in children. "We teach self-help skills
such as pouring from a pitcher, cleaning up, tying shoe laces, and using
scissors. Classrooms are set up so kids can succeed. The equipment, educational
activities and room environment are developmentally appropriate," said
Elaine Edwards, Director of Salina Child Care Association.
Jill Matteson has been taking her children, Mark and Maggie
(pictured), to the center for three years. When asked what she likes best,
she said, "Everything! It's a caring, happy place and with a lot of love.
It's easy to build a relationship with the teachers because the staff is
consistent." Edwards contributes the success of the agency to a great staff
that is committed to doing their jobs well.
United Way dollars help by providing child care scholarships
to families who need a little extra help so they can work or go to school.

| Mark Matteson enjoys going to Salina Child
Care because of all the fun activities. "Miss Bates has a big shelf of
games! In the summer we walk to the park for lunch and recess. On Wednesdays
we walk to the swimming pool and on Fridays we watch movies and draw for
prizes. It's a fun place to be!" said Mark. |
