Enhancing Community Resources
HelpNet Technology Helps Build Community.
United Way is leading a technology initiative that links people whose
jobs or volunteer activities make life better in our community. HelpNet
links human services, schools, United Way, and business partners.
By logging onto the HelpNet website at www.salhelp.org, users will find
a comprehensive human service database, a community calendar, electronic
newsletters, an e-mail address list, community initiative webpages and
links to other relevant sites.
Nathaniel Burt, a junior at Central High School, has used his talent
and computer skills to develop the youth asset development webpage (www.salhelp.org/youth)
for the HelpNet website. “Asset building is a good idea and the website
gives helpful parenting tips,” said
Nathaniel. As a volunteer for the Volunteer Connection (a United
Way participating agency), Nathaniel has devoted over 100 hours to
community projects in the past year.
Recently, Nathaniel was awarded a President Student Service scholarship
for $1,000 in recognition of his outstanding efforts. Upon graduation,
Nathaniel plans to attend college and major in computer engineering.
