Special Equipment Boosts Self-Esteem
Seven years ago Brent Beshears never would
have imagined he would be in need of the United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas
(UCP) or the funding UCP receives from the United Way. Now the 22-year-old
is very thankful for both organizations' help.
At the young age of 15 Brent was paralyzed
in an after school fight, leaving him in need of expensive specialized
equipment. UCP assisted Brent in buying a new power chair that has
boosted his self-esteem and provided him with much more independence.
"This chair allows me to make weight shifts
without anyone helping me shift in the chair," Brent said. "My old
chair practically junked out going up a hill. It was uncomfortable
and left me with injuries that required surgery last year. This chair's
a huge improvement."
You were there, along with the United Way
and UCP when Brent was in need of a new chair and a better outlook on life.
| United Cerebral Palsy has been very helpful.
They paid for $1,700 of a new (power) chair... I really needed a new chair.”
